The Mirage Observatories by MANDELWERK The Mirage Observatories by MANDELWERK
At last I got a chance to see this surreal world from above.
From the same fractal as this: [link]

Mandelbulb 3D, DOF fog & my own airplane images added in Photoshop.

I played around with the ambient shadows in this one, this is a blend of two different settings, it gave some interesting structures to the surfaces...

 Thank you Mark, it is a result of using the ambient shadowing that is meant for animations, do not remember what it is called at the moment.

The choice to use the DEAO calculation setting works wonderful here!

Yes, DEAO, I didn't remember the name, did you get some nice results with it?

I did try it once but the result was not as expected(It was a rather busy image and maybe the wrong type of coloring). Now seeing your image I will give it another try for sure!!

I can imagine it looks like shit on busy images, I even had to blend it on this with a "normal" AS in Photoshop.

You should throw some light blue highlights on the plane or add a bit of tinting to match it into the background. Otherwise, it sticks out like a mobile hanging from a ceiling.

Not sure if the plane is rendered in 3d (looks like it is) but if it is, an easy sidestep would be to load the background image as an environment map in your 3d renderer. If you are really savvy, you can get photo realistic reflections by rendering a few more views of the area, but the existing image should be a close approximation.

Cool stuff all around.

Thank you Mille!
Now, realism wasn't my primary goal in this image, but I agree with you, I could have done something to make it look like it is in that sky, it is too clear. A blueish fog might have done the trick?
It is a photo of a plane from a show I went to last summer.

Mostly, I think it's the bright orange highlights on the front edge of the top wing, and along the edges of the rear wingtips. They allude to a light source more orange than the background is using. Just some light blue tinting over areas that are lighter should do the trick. It really wouldn't have to be that heavy.

The fog in the image doesn't really seem to come into play until much further in the perspective, so I think the clarity of the stock is just fine.

My silly complaints aside, I still think it rocks.
